5 ways to decorate your porch this fall

It’s hard to believe, but fall is right around the corner. What better way to welcome the season than by making a few adjustments to your porch aesthetic? Making a transition from summer to fall is simple, and it can do your dwelling some good, according to interior decorator Alyssa Kapito.

“Design should never be done,” she told House Beautiful. “Changing things up seasonally is fresh and festive and keeps your home from feeling tired. Even small details that are thoughtful can be very inviting.”

Though it may seem like the season of sunshine just arrived, it’s time to give it a sweet kiss goodbye and welcome autumn with open arms. Not sure how to get started on your seasonal decor transition? Just reach out to a Decorating Den Interiors personal decorator. With his or her help, you can emulate one of the following themes seamlessly:

1. Be fierce and festive
Show neighbors and guests how much you love fall by decorating with traditional colors and adornments. Place pumpkins, rustic wooden baskets and other autumn-inspired elements around your entryway – just be sure to vary the item sizes and shapes to spark visual interest.

2. Add subtle fall elements
If you’re going for a subtle fall vibe, just accent the space with seasonal colors. Deep browns, oranges, yellows and even certain green shades can give off the perfect feel without going overboard. Your decorator can provide subtle suggestions based on the route you want to take.

“Paint pumpkins, gourds and cornstalks in metallic gold and white.”

3. Try autumn chic on for size
Instead of following the traditional fall color palette, Country Living magazine suggested taking a modern twist on fall decor. Paint pumpkins, gourds and cornstalks in metallic gold and white and lay out a matching rug to lead guests inside.

4. Say hello to seasonal shrubbery
Summer’s end is near, but that doesn’t mean you have to put away the potted plants. Instead of greeting your guests with flowers on the front porch, decorator Christine Rose told House Beautiful to embrace fall-inspired plants in replacement!

“I recommend natural plants like ornamental mustard, natural wheat grasses, different variations of ornamental kale and pops of color with small chrysanthemums mixed in,” she said.

5. Show your Halloween spirit
For some, Halloween is the only thing that comes to mind when fall arrives, and there’s nothing wrong with that! Take advantage of this holiday as a theme for decorating your porch this season. Use festive decor in black, shades or orange and purple to give off a haunting vibe with style.
