Continued Growth in 2013

Decorating Den Interiors Continues Growth in 2013

Easton, Md.— The addition of 23 new franchises across the U.S. and Canada, a new master licensee, and two new district managers, made 2013 a year of continued growth for Decorating Den Interiors, North America’s largest home furnishings and interior design franchise company. Average sales per franchise outlet increased by double digit percentages above 2012 levels and to an all time high, above pre-recession levels.

“Our franchise owners produced the highest monthly sales average in the company’s history,” said James S. Bugg, Jr., president and chief executive officer. “We continued the trend of attracting more people with previous experience in interior design or other aspects of home furnishings, while still attracting those from other fields. Canada, in addition, continues to show strength both in attracting new owners and retail sales. The owners of one of our top franchises have committed to further development of the Atlanta Metro area by becoming master licensees, and we added two district developers. All in all, 2013 was a very good year for our company.”

The new franchises are located in: Alabama, California, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Ontario, Canada.

Barbara Elliott and Jennifer Ward Woods, sisters who have grown their franchise in Stone Mountain, Ga. to be one of the most successful in the company having garnered many interior design and sales awards acquired the master license in December, which assigns them the rights to market and develop additional franchises serving the metro Atlanta area. The two new district developers are Jan Bromberek, 2013 Franchise Owner of the Year from Plainfield, Ill., who will support new franchises in the western suburbs of Chicago, and Denise Smith, franchise owner in Norman, Okla. who will support new franchises in theOklahoma City area.

Other accomplishments during the year:

  • www.interiordecoratingcareer.com was introduced to assist those interested in exploring the franchise ownership option for training and business systems specially developed for interior design and home furnishings sales with Decorating Den Interiors’ low overhead home- or studio-based business model.
  • The reveal of a new branding look to reflect its broader offerings of home furnishings. The company’s new visual identity is a wordmark, a type treatment of its name that does not include any additional symbol (see www.decoratingden.com ). The new visual presentation of the name is straight forward, clean and contemporary. It also puts more emphasis on the word interiors, reflecting the wide range of home interior options offered.
  • The company’s Dream Room People’s Choice Award online voting drew nearly 25,000 votes. Winners are displayed at www.decoratingden.com/showcase/2013
  • James S. Bugg, Sr., company chairman, was voted “Best Franchising Pioneer” after a month of online voting on a website that presented brief biographies of 50 pioneers who helped build the $2 trillion franchise industry.

“While historically our business was built primarily with women with an eye and passion for design, but often from other careers, such as teaching, or sales, this past year shows that we are also attracting savvy experienced home interiors professionals who have been displaced when the furniture store or design center they worked for closed or are simply looking for greater independence. They are finding that our supplier network, business systems and continuing education provide a substantial advantage,” says Bugg, Jr.

“Today our design professionals provide a wider range of home interior options than can be found from any single source,” he adds. “They represent more than 85 home furnishings suppliers offering our customers furniture, case goods, accessories, lighting, floor and wall coverings, draperies and other hard and soft window treatments. And our hallmark benefit is that we continue to take samples directly to the client’s home or office, provide complimentary design services, and personally see projects through to completion.”
