The foundation of any interior design business is building one’s personal reputation in your local market. An important building block in that foundation can be being part of something bigger.

For example, when window treatments expert Charles Randall was beginning work on his newest book, Designer Window Fashions, an interior design writer he knows suggested a way for him to have access to large library of photos of window treatment designs. That library represents the work of some 300 design professionals who are Decorating Den Interiors franchise partner or designers who work in those businesses.

“My writer friend introduced me to Ross Feltz, who does public relations for those design business owners,” said Randall. “That began a year of working with Ross looking at hundreds of photos from several years of entries in the company’s annual Dream Room competition. The result was that nearly 100 photos from about 40 Decorating Den Interiors were used in my new book with each individual designer identified with their location.”

The Dream Room competition Randall mentions affords these interior design business owners an opportunity to submit professionally photographed makeovers in 12 room categories to be judged by interior design journalists from throughout the U.S. and Canada. The top three in each category receive an award from Tiffany & Co in that distinctive Tiffany Blue Box, along with a cash award. The room judged best from among the first-place winners in each category earns that designer the title Designer of the Year, along with a trip to New York City and much publicity.

Dream Room photos are used in national magazines, blog posts, digital marketing, books like Designer Window Fashions, Love Your Home: Marvelous Makeovers, and others.

These give our interior design business owners an important resource for building their personal reputation in the local market. They give them the opportunity to show prospective clients the kinds of products they have available in their LIVV Home Collection™ of fine home furnishings. These photos enable them to show a wider portfolio of work to inspire the client. It shows the client they are part of a large interior design organization while still being an independent local interior designer.

Being able to show off so many colleagues’ designs in Designer Window Fashions both adds to their personal reputation and provides an educational resource to help clients see the value and beauty of custom window fashions.

It all makes for another advantage for starting or growing and interior design business with Decorating Den Interiors.
